I Would Shelter In This

I have been thinking a lot about where I live, or the space where I spend most of my time. This is what happens when you have a lot of time alone in that space—you start to think about how you can improve it, or alter it, or just abandon it for something better. I think I have found my ultimate shelter-in-place home.

A houseboat. Not just any houseboat. Shel Silverstein’s houseboat. It’s for sale, and it is beautiful. It’s in California, but I won’t hold that against it because it is in Sausalito.

The estimated payment on a 30-year fixed loan would be around $2,800. The asking price is $783,000. Would you pay close to $800,000 to own this beauty? I think if I had that much money to put into a house, I probably would. Look at that kitchen, and all the little details. I think I would insist that I buy it with everything intact. No one can take the furniture or anything. I’d even keep the Spiderman bedspread on the suspended bed in the kid’s room. The only thing that is a little off, is the washer and dryer in the bedroom. I think the screen they use to “hide” it, isn’t as effective as they think it is.

What do you think of 8 Liberty Dock? If you could live in any structure right now (doesn’t matter the location), what would it be? An old barn, a tiny home, a giant southern mansion?
